What are some of the challenges when framing collections of multiple items?

a) The first challenge is always the design layout. A good design layout will be balanced and harmonious. It will place items of importance in focal areas and work well together a whole unit.
b) The second challenge is mounting, or attaching, the items to a suitable backing board without any damage to the item itself. This process entails using a variety of methods so that one sees as little of, or none of, the materials used to attach the items to the board. This could include the use of fishing line, stitched thread, adhesives, creative looping and buttoning techniques, lacing, pins and many more. The goal: only see the memorable items and none of the attachment materials.
c) Layering and Bracing.
By layering and bracing we refer to the backing of mounting and the spacing up of the items so that they are clear of the enclosing glass. It is of utmost importance that the integrity of the attachments, wires, line, threads, pins etc are held into place behind the frame, and also that these are not seen.
Bracing means that the internal construction (the part of the mounting that you don’t see) is braced so that no sagging or collapsing of the visible materials happens. We want your frame to look professional and to last a lifetime without any items falling off or coming loose.
Occasionally frames holding multiple 3 dimensional items can become quite heavy and a back bracing may be included to ensure the integrity of the frame.
d) Final assembly. In the final assembly of the frame it is important to ensure that all items are tightly packed and sealed into the final frame so that no shifting or movement can occur.
